Michael J. Basile is the managing member of Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC. His primary areas of practice are state and local government, and community relations, business, land use planning and administrative law.

Prior to joining Spilman, Mike was the Associate General Counsel, General Counsel and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Office of Governor Gaston Caperton from 1994 to 1997. He was the General Counsel to the West Virginia Development Office from 1993 to 1994 and the Assistant and Senior Assistant Attorneys General from 1991 to 1993.

Mike received his B.S. in Finance from West Virginia University in 1987 and his J.D. from University of PIttsburgh in 1991.

Mike is highly active in numerous business, nonprofit and community organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Charleston Inter-Regional Chamber of Commerce, Charleston Area Alliance and Vision Shared, Inc. He serves as Chairman of the Board for Fifth Third Bank (Ohio Valley). He was a Steering Committee Member from 2004 to 2005 for Governor-Elect Joe Manchin III's Transition Team. In 2005, Mike was appointed to the Council for Community and Economic Development by Governor Joe Manchin III. He currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for West Virginia University, College of Business and Economics.
