Southern West Virginia Broadband Summit
September 18, 2006
Summit aimed at closing the "digital divide" between urban and rural communities
As a mostly rural state, closing the “digital divide” between urban and rural communities and allowing rural areas to compete for high-value jobs and investment is critical to the economic growth of our State. This one-day Summit held in Beckley brought key private and public decision makers including leading telecommunications industry executives and senior government officials to discuss what southern West Virginia communities can do to fund, develop and attract advanced telecommunications services. Senator Jay Rockefeller, Congressman Nick Rahall and Federal Communications Commissioner, Michael J. Copps, were the events’ keynote speakers.
